POISONOUS PLANTS AND OUR PETS!

POISONOUS PLANTS AND OUR PETS!

We all know that spring and summer here in the Pacific NW is beautiful and the weather has been just right to get outside and start working in our yards and gardens! Before you do however, please review the list below of the 10 most toxic plants to pets and for your pets safety please be sure to steer clear of those when choosing how to decorate your yard! Especially if your pet likes to get into grasses, plants, and flowers!

It’s important to know that the list below is intended only as a guide to just a few of the many plants which are generally identified as having the capability for producing a toxic reaction in your pets. We recommend first that you print this list and keep it in an accessible place or even bring it with you when heading to the garden store to do your shopping.  Secondly, since there are more than 700 plants that have been identified as producing toxic substances in sufficient amounts to cause harmful effects in animals we strongly recommend visiting http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poisons/ for a complete list of all of the plants poisonous to our furry friends before heading out to your local nursery!

Ten most poisonous plants to pets:

  • Autumn Crocus
  • Azalea
  • Cyclamen
  • Kalanchoe
  • Lilies
  • Oleander—Dieffenbachia
  • Daffodils
  • Lily of the Valley
  • Sago Palm
  • Tulips & Hyacinths

So go ahead get outside, enjoy the sunshine but please just be sure know which plants are the most dangerous or even deadly to your pets, avoid planting those, and hopefully avoid any visits to Alpine View Veterinary Hospital due to an accidental ingestion in the upcoming months of  warm weather, and outdoor fun! The veterinarians and staff here at our clinic love to see you and all your furry friends but prefer it to be for annual wellness exams, and vaccines, and just to make sure that overall your pets are healthy, happy, and enjoying life!!!

Please call us at 360-794-6662 immediately if you think your pet has accidentally gotten into a poisonous plant or substance, the quicker you react and get them in the more likely it is that we will be able to help! We are conveniently located on the SW corner of Monroe just off of Frylands Blvd and the Old Snohomish Monroe Road and our hours are Mon-Fri 8-6 and Sat 8-2.

Sincerely,

All your Friends from Alpine View
